End of the Season

So, here's the plan for next year. Tomatoes to plant (in order of importance):
1. Orange-Strawberry. They're really good for sandwiches and salad caprese.
2. Hillbilly. They're yummy for eating out of hand. Nice and sweet.
3. Paul Robeson. Rich beefsteak flavor
4. Julia Child. Milder flavor. Not as flavorful in the garden...might need more tomato tone in the soil.

As for other veggies, okra did well, but need more than two plants next time. Will try bell peppers again, but they didn't do well at all (and I mean at ALL). Will also do yellow squash again, but need to stake them up so they don't take over the space. Not doing eggplant unless they're the big kind. the little ones aren't worth the space. Might also try green beans. Didn't use any of the sage or oregano, but did use the sweet basil.

Think that's it. Since the gardening season is over, I might use this for sewing notes instead.

Garden Notes

Steve made me a garden patch (cause he's awesome!)....so as of today here's how it's growing.

Tomatoes are doing well. I've had several garden peach that have ripened as well as several of the zebras. Both varieties are just okay. Waiting for the Julia Child's to ripen (they're very yummy). I also have either a boxcar willie or a brandywine (I really need to be more careful when labeling them. On the deck in the containers I have a brandywine, a blondkopfchen, a Paul Robeson, and an orange-strawberry. All are doing fairly well (many blondkopfchen!), except the orange-strawberry. It has gotten blight, probably from reusing the soil.....

Back in the garden. The okra is doing good. I only planted 2, and that's just not enough to get many ripe pods all at once. Next year i need to plant at least 4. They can be closer together, too. Sweet and Thai Basil's are doing very well, as is the sage and oregano. Bell peppers didn't do well at all. Only on pepper per plant. Next year, need to get the plants earlier and plant more of them. Yellow squash and zucchini doing good. Next year, only plant one of each and steak them up....the yellow squach had a problem with molding due to moisture buildup under leaves.

Next year, I'm only going to start the tomatoes that I know I reaaallly like, since space is limited. This would include Julia Child (great flavor), Paul Robeson (rich tomatoey flavor), orange strawberry (nice flavor and very few seeds, so it's good for salad caprese). Might give costoluto's another chance. They may grow better in the ground. Will also look at tomatofest and see if there are other varieties I might want to try (like the mortgage lifter!!)

Am I ever going to reach my goal?

Okay, there are only 78 more days til Disney, and I am not making the strides that I'd hoped for towards my weight loss goal. My calorie burn per day is fine, I think I'm just eating too many calories. I have had several people tell me lately that I'm looking smaller, and my clothes are getting too big, so I guess I'm making progress. Sometimes the scale can be a big fat liar.

My first entry

This is going to be short and sweet, since I'm at work right now. Just wanted to get this up and running and see how it looks. Peace out!
